BY: JENNIFER CROSSON Many who know me know how much I love a good steak. I am the girl that declared that I wanted my last meal before I delivered my oldest daughter to be a steak dinner. Maybe because I said it so often, it came true. Maybe that is why my water broke in the middle of the bar area of the JW Steakhouse in Ankara. Nonetheless, my daughter clearly heard me, and found the perfect time to come into the world. This might also be why I have a great affinity for not just Marriott hotels, but their steakhouses. So, when I read that one of the best rated and reviewed steak restaurants in Dubai was Prime68, located on the 68th floor of the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Hotel, I did not hesitate to choose the restaurant for my first major dining out experience in Dubai since moving here. And, my husband was also on board, as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. As the name suggests, the restaurant is situated on the 68th floor of the hotel in the Business Bay area of Dubai, which gives a spectacular view of the Dubai city skyline. Now, there are a lot of varying opinions about what makes a good steak. Some people love their steak covered in sauce, but the purist in me just wants a good cut of beef, cooked to my liking with some light seasoning or even just butter and salt. That to me is the hallmark of a quality steak. And, that is what we found at Prime68. We enjoyed their three course meal, starting with the steak tartare for the hubby and the truffle gnocchi for me. Both were good portions for appetizers. Each of us then had the Australian striploin and the truffle mac and cheese and simple mashed potatoes as our sides. The steak was cooked to our preferences and the perfect portions for dinner. An interesting fun side perk was that we got to choose our own weapon (knife) for our steak. The waiter showed us this wooden display box of knife options for our steaks, which was a first time experience for me despite the many steak restaurants I have frequented. For dessert, we had the New York cheese cake and chocolate cherry trifle, which were both delightful and not overly sweet. Aside from our main meal, the chef also provided us complimentary baked oysters in a light cream sauce topped with a bit of matcha on a bed of sea salt. And, the homemade baked bread with butter should not be skipped. The latter complements were nice touches to an already fantastic meal. I would definitely recommend Prime68 for a relaxing night out on the town, whether you are celebrating a milestone or just want a good, no frills quality dinner. I know I will add this to my list of must returns...maybe before my next baby decides to enter the world.
